Shyness and other forms of social anxiety are common – and they prevent people from fully experiencing life. A bit of shyness is a good thing. But when a high level of shyness prevents a person from engaging in normal social interactions, from functioning well at school or work, or from developing close relationships, it presents a problem – which, fortunately, can be corrected. Starting as early as possible in childhood has an advantage in redirecting social development in order to overcome anxiety and promote social confidence. But, changes can occur and be exciting at any age.
Shyness can be expressed as uncomfortable physical symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, nervousness, blushing, racing heart, and more. The anxiety of being judged or embarrassed can rob you of your creativity and ability to enjoy the life you deserve.
